The Paul J. Alinsky Excellence Award is presented in honor of Paul Alinsky who was a past Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Rotary Club President, and founder of Sentinel Alarm Company. Paul passed away in 1997 and this award was created to keep his memory alive. The award is given annually to a person from the Michigan City community who exhibits dedication to community service and excellence, passion and innovation in their vocation/career.

Dion has been with the Michigan City Police Department for 20 years and worked as school resource officer at MCHS for the last nine years. He also founded Worldgate Centre for Life, and the team there, among other contributions, helped to develop the MCPD Youth leadership Academy. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1988 and from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1997 while being president of his class. Campbell's love for God provides his greatest motivation, and all his work is built on his faith. The principles in the Bible will build a robust life, he said, so he wants to impart those principles to others. He is married to LaRhonda Campbell.
