World Polio Day
October 24th is World Polio Day.  This is the day we highlight the progress being made to eradicate the disease from the face of the earth.  As of October 1, 2020, there are only 2 countries where the polio virus is in the wild.  We are this close to eradicating the disease.  Here is a video from 3 years ago showing the progress to then.  You may notice the similarities to the current coronas virus outbreak we are now experiencing.  Nigeria is the latest country to be declared polio free.

We started our world polio day activities by having our own Pastor Dennis Carroll, a polio survivor, interviewed on WIMS radio in Michigan City joined by Matt Kubik and Ric Federighi.  Click here to see the interview.

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Be a part of history

We’re close to eradicating polio, but we’re not done yet. We still need funds to continue immunization and surveillance efforts. Your gift will get us closer to the finish line.

For true economic development, women are essential
Women’s economic empowerment contributes to a nation’s growth and to the world’s economic health overall. Studies have shown that it boosts productivity, increases economic diversification and income equality, and supports economic resilience. And income loss associated with gender discrimination costs the world economy an estimated $12 trillion and well as a reduction of 16 percent of cost to the global GPD.
