President's Message

Professional Development Month Continues....

This week (April 1) we were delighted to hear from Dr. Jane Shumski Thomas on how to lead better meetings. (See the video of her talk here.)

Next week (April 8) we will here from Anthony B. Sindone, M.A., Clinical Assistant Professor of Finance and Economic Development, whose topic is "Michigan City and the Fourth Industrial Revolution: A Post-COVID future."  (See below for the full article.)

Rotaract at Purdue University Northwest

Members of the Michigan City and LaPorte Rotary clubs held a meeting with Purdue University Northwest (PNW), Westville Campus, to discuss the possibility of starting a new Rotaract club. Dr. Lawrence Hamer, Dean of the College of Business and Matthew Wells, Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships, Engagement and Legislative Liaison were on the call from PNW. The meeting went very well, and we all agreed to move forward. This is a great opportunity to grow Rotary!

PNW will begin determining which of their staff and faculty members will be involved. We agreed to begin developing a list of PNW students that have a Rotary connection This is where we need help from you.

Do you have a relative or friend of the family that is a student at PNW? Please include incoming Freshman for the 2021-2022 school year. At this point we are asking for names only.

Once you have the name(s), email them to me and I will create a list to share with PNW.  We will ensure each student is invited to one of the call-out meetings later this year and keep everyone updated on the progress of the club.

Reopening of face-to-face meetings.

At our last board meeting it was decided to attempt to start meeting face-to-face again in May.  We would start meeting outdoors following all federal, state, and county guidelines.  The first meeting will possibly be at Creek Ridge County Park with a bring your own lunch format.  If you have any thoughts on this, please feel free to contact any board member using the Club Leaders section of the website.
