Launching Movers & Shakers Speaker Series

The Movers & Shakers Speaker Series has a goal of bringing community leaders to a public conversation about the current state of our city, as well as what the future holds.

Anyone interested in Michigan City quality of life is invited to attend. Meetings will take place on Thursdays at noon at The Salvation Army of Michigan City, 1202 Franklin Street. Those attending may bring lunch or a catered lunch is available for a $15 donation.

“Our goal is to feature voices from the community who are shaping the future of Michigan City,” said Terry Voltz, President of the Rotary Club of Michigan City. “This is a chance for citizens to hear from those who are making real change happen in our city. It allows our club to be a part of the conversation and we welcome the community to be a part of it.”

The series will kick off Thursday, February 23 with Skyler York of the Michigan City Redevelopment Commission as the featured speaker.

As the series continues, featured speakers will include:
  • Harry Holtkamp, Director of Interfaith Community PADS on March 2
  • Jason Yoder, District Executive for LaPorte County from LaSalle Council Boy Scouts of America on March 9
  • Katie Eaton, President of the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce on March 23
  • Greg Coulter, Tobacco Program Coordinator for Healthy Communities of La Porte County on March 30
  • Clarence Hulse, Director of the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City on April 6

  • Dale Cooper to speak on La Porte County tourism on May 11
  • Matt Kubik to discuss the social and economic impact of public art in Michigan City on May 18.
“Our club motto is ‘Service Above Self’ and we believe that through this new program we are upholding the club’s belief in serving the wider community through our resources,” Voltz said. “The Rotary Club of Michigan City is excited to welcome these speakers, and we look forward to the continued conversations that will come of this series.”
