Paul J. Alinsky Award Celebration

We are honored to present this award to Cyndi Davis, Executive Director of the North Central Community Action Agency.

She is someone who works hard to meet the needs of this community in a variety of ways – all while showing the excellence, innovation and service above self we, as a club, have come to associate with the Paul J. Alinsky Excellence Award.

The Paul J. Alinsky Award is presented in honor of Paul Alinsky who was a past Chamber Chairman of the Board, Rotary Club President and founder of Sentinel Alarm Company. Paul passed away in 1997 and this award was created to keep his memory alive. The award is given annually to a person from the Michigan City community who exhibits dedication to community service and excellence, passion and innovation in their vocation/career. These are the areas where Paul excelled.

Atomic bomb trees serve as silent witness for peace
The Rotary Club of Hiroshima Southeast, Japan, wanted a project to mark its 60th anniversary and also the 75th year since the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In his post for Rotary Voices, Akio Nishikiori, an atomic bomb survivor, describes the project to plant two saplings from trees that survived the A-bomb in a park midway between the two cities.
Rotary's long history of promoting peace
From a pre-World War I resolution calling for “the maintenance of peace” to our continuing support for Rotary Peace Centers, Rotary and its members have a long history of promoting peace and working to address the underlying causes of conflict in communities around the world.
Apply for a Rotary Peace Fellowship
Each year, Rotary awards up to 130 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of our peace centers.

Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the capacity of peace and development professionals or practitioners to become experienced and effective catalysts for peace. The fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.

Rotary's fellowships

The Rotary Peace Fellowship is designed for leaders with work experience in peace and development. Our fellows are committed to community and international service and the pursuit of peace. Each year, The Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and 80 for certificate studies at premier universities.
