The Social & Learning Institute has been serving the La Porte County area since 1976. Their knowledgeable leadership and staff are dedicated to cultivating the social, emotional, and educational development of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is their mission to enrich these individuals’ lives by providing opportunities to engage with their peers, expand their talents and abilities, practice important life skills, and explore their community through a structured balance of socialization and learning activities.

Kris Pate
Executive Director, United Way of La Porte County

 

Kris gave an update on what is going on with the United Way during these special times.

 

The United Way (UW) has raised about $140,000 for Covid-19 assistance.  In addition the UW has funded 13 agencies providing food, housing, child care, prescriptions, and protective equipment.

HealthLinc expands access to exceptional health care in Michigan City.

Each year HealthLinc conducts a Community Health Fair where it provides no cost well-child checkups and sports physicals.  In addition they give out free backpacks and supplies,  This year the Rotary Club of Michigan City provided $2,000 for Michigan City Wolves spirit wear in the form of a t-shirt.
