This is our chance to show the community that we really are "People of Action" who put "Service Above Self".

Stories
Red's Nature Adventure
We are grateful to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of La Porte County and Shirley Heinze Land Trust. Michigan City Rotarian Dr. Jim Dworkin is the author of Red’s Nature Adventure. This gift will provide 40 future leaders their own book to read a lesson about nature. https://heinzetrust.org/product/reds-nature-adventure/

An adventurous dog. A lesson about nature. Red the Irish setter is back for yet another escapade! This time he and his human friends head out for a day of exploration in a local nature preserve. Along the way, adventurous Red meets some special new friends who come to his aid as they teach him about the world in which they live. Beautifully illustrated by artist Michael Chelich, the story is set in the real-life northwestern Indiana nature preserves of Shirley Heinze Land Trust. The appendix includes information about the importance of protecting these natural places and how you can visit them.

Thanks to Lance Werner for his generous contribution for the books.

About the author:
James B. Dworkin, an Indiana-based educator, is chancellor emeritus at Purdue University North Central and a professor of management at the Krannert Graduate School at Purdue University. He is the author of two academic books and has published more than eighty articles on labor economics and labor relations. He has published three children’s books. You can purchase his books on Amazon.  Jim is also a member of our Rotary Club.
Rotary District 6450 Governor Jane Roush
Jane shared information on Rotary International and District initiatives for 2021-2022.

Jane Roush joined the Albion Rotary club in February 2006.  Jane has served as President, Assistant Governor, Annual Fund Chair and Administrative Council Representative.  Her father, father-in-law and husband have all been Rotarians.

Jane graduated with a BS in Marketing from Indiana University, Bloomington.  Her professional life has provided her with many opportunities.  She started in sales with P & G.  She was the Executive Director of the Kendallville Chamber of Commerce and served as the first Director of the Parkview Noble Hospital Foundation.  She values connections with people and sharing in passions that lead to “great work”.

Jane and her husband “Alan” delight in their children and four grandchildren,   Their home on a small lake outside of Kendallville gives them many hours of enjoyment in lake and family activities.  She loves to read, beach days and traveling to explore new areas.

Jane has been involved and served in leadership roles with numerous school and community organizations.  Involvement in Rotary energizes Jane through networking, “Service above Self” and sharing that enthusiasm both in the community and globally.  Her years in philanthropic work give a great appreciation for the humanitarian work done through the Rotary Foundation.
Join the Strive Program
July 15th we had our first meeting to learn about the STRIVE Program, geared to students who are the first generation to seek formal education beyond high school. A video of former students sharing what they learned and how they benefited from the STRIVE program was shown. Other students who have graduated from college and moved out into the "real world" will be with us later in August. Learn what a difference this program. Can make in a high school student's life...with just one meeting a month with a mentor in a group...all together...can make! Sign up today by submitting your application for a criminal background check. You'll be in good company with other Rotarians.
