Unfortunately, many people dread both virtual and in-person meetings. Why are workplace meetings often viewed as painful, unproductive, “time-killers”? Research has shown that there are several reasons why workplace meetings stink and that there are several evidence-based strategies that can make meetings better. |

Michigan City and the Fourth Industrial Revolution: A Post-COVID future

Clinical Associate Professor of Finance and Economic Development at Purdue University Northwest. He was the Past Director of the Professional MBA Program and the Director of The Center for Economic Development and Research. He holds a Masters degree in economics from the University of Notre Dame with concentrations in labor economics and public policy, completing all the course work for the Ph.D. Prior to Purdue, he served on the faculties of Indiana University South Bend and the University of Notre Dame. His more than 34 years’ experience as well as his research and consulting interests include forensic economics, labor markets, workforce development, public policy, housing markets, and regional economic development. He is a member of the Regional Council of Economic Advisors for Northwest Indiana. He has been quoted numerous times in regional newspapers and has been a frequent guest on news radio and television. Additionally, he had served as the President of the La Porte City Redevelopment Commission. He had also served on several not-for-profit Boards of Directors including as President of Stepping Stone Shelter for Women and as President of Smooth Jazz at South Shore Inc. In addition to his work with the Regional Council of Economic Advisors, he is currently serving on the Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) 2040 Plan Implementation Committee. His focus on that committee is on workforce development and innovation. He currently serves on several not-for-profit boards including Junior Achievement, The World Trade Alliance, and NWI Business Magazine. |

Debbie Tatum is Director of Development for the Franciscan Health Foundation, Northern Indiana Region, a philanthropic organization which supports the mission programs of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration. She is former Director of Stewardship and Development for the Diocese of Gary and Executive Director of the Catholic Foundation for Northwest Indiana. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems and a master’s degree in Pastoral Studies, as well as a certificate in Lay Ecclesial Ministry. STRIVE program

The STRIVE mentoring program builds confidence in high school students who are the first generation in their family to go to college.
At the beginning of each year new students are admitted to the STRIVE program. The Core Mentor Committee will choose new students in the following priority sequence: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior. The intent is to bring students into the program who will benefit from the most years of membership possible, including mentor partnership for up to 4 years, and the cumulative general support the program and mentors provide.
Come to this meeting to learn more about this exciting youth development project.

“The Funeral Photographer” Movie

The film is called “The Funeral Photographer,” and is written and produced by Mark Strauss, along with a team of passionate creatives who are working on the project including local and regional actors who have been in productions such as Chicago Fire. According to the motion picture website IDMB the storyline takes place, “When Julie steps into a funeral home for what appears to be an ordinary photography job, it will transform what we think we know about love, loss, and remembrance.” |

County Immunization Day

Similar to the National Immunization Days (NID) conducted world-wide by Rotary to distribute the polio vaccine. This project will be in conjunction with the Michigan City Area Schools' (MCAS) Back to School Rally on August 14th.
Working as a subcommittee of the ourshotlpc.org vaccination support group Rotary will be supporting the MCAS, the County Visitors Bureau, HealthLinc Inc. and the La Porte County health department to encourage unvaccinated members of La Porte County to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
