Thanksgiving Dinner via the Salvation Army
This year the Salvation Army plans to have meals boxed and delivered to seniors, disabled and homebound people; and host a drive-through system for people to pick up boxed meals from noon to 1pm.  They will not have guests in their building has they have in the past.

However, we still need to supply the turkeys and hams as we have done in the past.  We need about $1,000 to pay for the turkeys and hams.  We currently only have around $300 due to not meeting face to face where the Piggy Banks are on the tables.  So, if you can, please send a check with your donation payable to MC Rotary, P.O. Box 9372, Michigan City, IN 46361-9372.  Be sure to indicate the check is for the Feed the Pig project. If you would rather pay online, click here to "Feed the Pig".

Also, we do still need volunteers on Thanksgiving Day for:
  1. 09:00 am - Transporting turkeys and hams from Blue Chip to The Salvation Army
  2. 10:30 am - Boxing the meals
  3. 11:00 am - Delivering meals to client homes (delivery drivers need to pre-screen, so if any Rotarians are interested, they can contact the Salvation Army office (219-874-6885) prior to Thanksgiving so they can do a background check).
  4. 12:00 pm - Distributing the meals

Our November 12th program was
Presenting The Rotary Club of Michigan City
Service Above Self Award
to Deputy Paul Adams

Recently, The Rotary Club of Michigan City, IN approached the LaPorte County Sheriff Office (LCSO) and sought a nomination for our 2020 Service Above Self Award. While there were many worthy candidates, the LCSO Administration selected and nominated Deputy Paul Adams, School Resource Officer (SRO) for the New Prairie United School Cooperation.

We are grateful for your dedication to our community.

At the beginning of the pandemic when schools closed, Deputy Adams volunteered to be temporarily assigned to the Midnight Patrol Shift-a much different assignment than his normal role as an SRO.

During that time, Deputy Adams still managed to report to his schools to prepare, pack and pass out meals for his students in the corporation, all while operating on very little rest. He continued to offer and provide other various services to school officials while he was away and not physically present.

When school resumed, Deputy Adams tirelessly worked with school administrators to navigate through the difficult challenges of the pandemic. As the school year continued, Deputy Adams rejoined his various clubs and programs that he serves as a liaison to for the corporation.

Today, Deputy Adams received the 2020 Service Above Self Award. Congratulations, Paul!

Deputy Adams is a 1985 graduate of New Prairie High School, a 20-year veteran of the LCSO and a member of the Emergency Response Team.

Our November 5th program was
