The Adventures of Book Writing

Author--- a new and exciting venture, this grassroots publishing universe! Here is my Bernie-bio:
Susan Pound is a lifelong rescuer of insects that are in danger of drowning in Lake Michigan. She specializes in designing and building recycled safe havens for Lady Bugs and butterflies. Her driftwood cities also provide equal housing opportunities to soggy sand flies, bees and wasps. Susan receives tuition-free Bernie-education from her millennial son David, who served as a delegate in the 2016 Iowa caucuses. She currently resides in Long Beach, Indiana, where she is the Managing Director for the Dignified Retirement Home for Siamese Cats.
Susan Pound grew up in the Chicago area, right under the flight patterns of O’Hare Airport. She has always had the same four compulsions: writing, beach walking, trying to change the world, and salting food before tasting it.

Her career path took her down a variety of nitty-gritty, nonprofit roads—counseling, social services and education administration, grants development. For a long time, creative writing took a back seat.

This book journey changed all that.

Susan currently walks—and writes about people with a Berning desire to change the world—by the inspirational shores of Lake Michigan. She still shakes her salt too freely.

Rotary releases $35 million to combat polio

Rotary has released another $35 million in grants to support the global effort to end polio. Nearly half of the new funds, $16.15 million, will support emergency response campaigns in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin, where four cases were detected last year after Nigeria had previously gone two years without a case.

Justice for all

Gary Haugen, leader of the International Justice Mission, contends that humanitarian work means little if basic safety is threatened. The Rotarian Magazine talked with Haugen, who established the IJM in 1997, about the importance of addressing violence and safety in development work.

Rotary Youth Exchange changed my life

Lost in the middle of a bustling street in Bangkok during her youth exchange year in Thailand, Kate Roff was approached by a stranger who helped her navigate the intricate bus system and get home. In her post for Rotary Voices, Roff explains how the goodness she witnessed that year gave her hope for the future and inspired her to pursue a career reporting on peace builders.

2015-16 Matching Gifts Campaign
In addition to the District 6540 matching gifts campaign, John Wendel is offering to match your donation.

Following on the success of 2015-16 Matching Gifts Campaign, the Rotary District is starting the Campaign this year on December 1, 2016.  The campaign will end on January 31, 2017, or when the 50,000 Foundation points are matched, whichever comes first.

This is a limited time offer for only District 6540 Rotarians.
Become a Paul Harris Fellow quicker with matching points for your donation!  Become a Paul Harris Fellow and/or earn a new Multiple Paul Harris Fellow pin. Make your spouse/partner a Paul Harris Fellow and your children, too. How about your parents, grandparents, grandchildren, favorite neighbor, or your boss?

District Governor Ranjan Kini, District Rotary Foundation Chair PDG Judy Walker and the committee are making this special offer possible.  They will match your individual donation from $100 on up to $25,000 to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation, with their recognition points. This can help you finish your first Paul Harris Fellowship or attain your next multiple Paul Harris Fellowship level. You can make someone else a Paul Harris Fellow, or two or three.  Please note that any current Major Donors are not eligible to personally get points, but they can give the points to an eligible designated recipient.

This year we are also offering a 2:1 match for NEW enrollments in Rotary Direct – the method for donating via periodic credit card donation.  Please see more details in the attachment.

This offer begins today, December 1, 2016, and expires on January 31, 2017.  Make sure that your "personal" checks arrive well before January 31, 2017.  We can match only the first $50,000 in eligible donations that we receive.

How this works:    PLEASE REVIEW THE RULES CAREFULLY, that were included in the attachment of the email notification that you should have received from John Smith on December 1, 2016.

Please make your personal checks payable to "The Rotary Foundation" and mail them along with the Foundation Contribution form, which can be found on the Rotary.org website at www.rotary.org, under My Rotary, to District Secretary John Smith at:
Rotary District 6540,
5307 Cloverbrook Drive, Fort Wayne, IN  46806.

If you have any questions, please call John at (260) 410-9326, or email John at:  john.smith@rotary6540.org

Thank you,
Ranjan Kini
