Michigan City Fire Department
 
Chief Randy Novak has the responsibility of overseeing and directing all aspects of the Michigan City Fire Department. He continues to train and maintain all of his certifications in addition to the day-to-day operations of the department.
 
Rotary Club of Michigan City hosted JROTC
At its last meeting, the Rotary Cub of Michigan City hosted the Marine Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps from Michigan City High School.
 
Each Corps member introduced themselves and gave their rank, scholastic year and where they were going after graduating.
 
After lunch they heard from Bill Hanna whose military career in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from 1995 to 1999 included membership in the Army’s Official Presidential Escort and service as the Head Trainer/Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C.
 
Bill brought photos and explained the purpose and duties of the Presidential Escort and Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C.
District 6540 Bike Ride Across Northern Indiana
Save the date and plan to ride in the District 6540 Bike Ride Across Northern Indiana.
 
Ride starts in Schererville and ends in Fort Wayne.  May 21, 2017 6:00am to 9:00pm. More details coming on the Rotary District 6540 website.
Sustainable Rotaract projects earn top honors
Members of the Rotaract Club at Moratuwa University, Sri Lanka, opened a library and science lab to help local students prepare for college entrance exams, and launched a weaving cooperative for female entrepreneurs. The project’s broader goal is to improve the quality of life in the community by stimulating economic growth. Learn why this effort was selected for the 2017 Rotaract Outstanding Project Award, and read about six regional projects also honored.
How to help Syrian refugees
The Rotary Club of Amherst in Nova Scotia, Canada, partnered with two local churches to sponsor two Syrian refugee families. The effort took the skills and experience of members of all three organizations to achieve success. Watch project leaders talk about how they built the partnership.
